Lamourache is situated above the village of Levignac de Guyenne which is  a short walk away and has many architectural features, including an historic church, a central square and halle .

There are shops where you can purchase local produce, a bakery where fresh bread is baked daily,a mini supermarket, chemist shop,Doctors surgery,Dentist and tobacco shop.

On Friday evenings in the summer months, the Halle (or covered market place) is transformed for the Friday night “Farmer’s market”

The square is closed to traffic, long tables and chairs are laid out, barbeques lit, music provided ,and a good time is had by all! And of course there are stalls where local produce can be purchased, including the local “Cotes De Duras” wines.

Similar “Markets” are held in other surrounding villages on different evenings.

The area is famous for it’s vineyards, and local wines. The local wine caves (wineries with shops) are more than happy to let you sample as wide a variety of wines as you wish without any obligation to buy. There are several magnificent chateaux in the area who also produce wine who are well worth a visit, notably Chateau Monbazillac near Bergerac.

The nearby town of Duras is very popular with visitors and boasts an ancient chateau which is now almost fully restored to it’s former glory. The views from the top of the tower are magnificent.

Duras boasts high quality pavement bars and restaurants where you can eat or enjoy a vin rouge. There are many events during the summer including a wine festival. A hot air balloon festival, and  a medieval spectacular. There is normally some form of entertainment most evenings for those who wish to venture out.Although children are welcome in bars and restaurants in France, there is a qualified English nanny at Lamourache who may be available for childcare at a minimal cost.

Or you could chose to stay put and enjoy the wonderful sunsets over Lamourache with a glass of something cool and whilst listening to the sounds of the cicadas as dusk falls
